Public Health website and newsletter
The Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) was looking for an effective communication strategy. Together with Epi Result a new website was developed, and this is kept up-to-date with public health news, job opportunities and PHASA news on a weekly fases. Futhermore, Epi Result is doing the editing for the quarterly electronic newsletter which contains articles on public health issues written by invited authors.
The Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA) represents the interests of the public health community in South Africa. It promotes greater equity in health for all South Africans by advocating equitable access to effective health care and the basic conditions necessary to achieve health.
PHASA has the following objectives:
- To advocate for the conditions for a healthy society;
- To build an effective organization;
- To create a multi-disciplinary environment of professional exchange and debate, study and activity through meetings, conferences and workshops for interested people;
- To promote teaching and research in public health issues;
- To support the publication of relevant materials;
- To network with other public health organisations and related organizations;
- To encourage and facilitate measures for disease prevention and health promotion.
In order to achieve these objectives it is important that PHASA has an effective communication strategy. Together with Epi Result a new website was developed for PHASA which was launched end of February 2011. www.phasa.org.za. The site contains public health news items (including events and conferences), job opportunities, interesting articles on public health issues written by invited authors and PHASA news, and is updated on a weekly basis. Every quarter the PHASA electronic newsletter is distributed to the subscribers containing e.g. new articles and in between monthly Public Health Updates are send out to keep subscribers up-to-date on new postings. In addition a Facebook page and a Twitter account have been set up, again with the goald to keep subscribers up-to-date.
Epi Result is responsible for the content management of the website, which includes finding interesting topics for the website, compile the items and upload these, together with uploading items submitted by others. Futhermore, for the newsletter Epi Result makes a proposal for the content at the beginning of each quarter and after discussion with the editorial team approaches the authors. Articles are subsequently edited and formatted. Red Earth Web design is responsible for the technical part of both the website and newsletter/updates distribution.
