Health Impact Assessment course

In August-September 2011 I did a 2.5-week online course on Health Impact Assessment from the International Health Impact Assessment Consortium (IMPACT)  which is based at the University of Liverpool. Although I have been involved in the baseline assessment phase of a HIA, it was informative to now go through all the phases, using HIAs that have been conducted as cases. What I found very interesting, and I noticed a similar thing when doing other courses, is that due to the different backgrounds of the participants everyone looked at potential health impacts from a different perspective. As an epidemiologist I focussed on a very narrow cause-effect relationship, while others had a much broader view.

Participatory Monitoring & Evaluation course

In September-October 2011 I did a 5-week online course on Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) from Village Earth (Colorado State University). The course provided me with lots of interesting reading materials, and there were active discussions online with the fellow participants
