Curriculum development

Development of modules/training guidelines for Public Health Programs.

Framework and modules

Based on my experience with teaching students in public health, I can assist in the development of a public health curriculum. When I started working as a senior lecturer/coordinator of the Master of Public Health program at the University of Venda, I developed the framework for all the modules in the program. In addition, I developed all the teaching materials for my own modules in epidemiology, biostatistics and research methodology.

Teaching materials

The actual content of a program will depend on the focus of the program as well as of the level of the students (bachelor, diploma, master). The modules that I develop include lectures, exercises and/or computer practicals and cases/discussion groups (Problem Based Learning). The teaching materials include the slides for the lectures, a block book for the students (with all the materials) as well as a tutor guide for the course facilitators (including the exercise answers and information needed for the cases).

I made an online learning package on how to read case control studies and cohort studies. Each package included a summary of key readings on the respective study design, podcasts focusing on the most difficult topics, and a worked example of the assessment of an article using the specific design.
