In December 2009, the book The Dynamics of Migration, Health and Livelihoods - INDEPTH Network Perspectives for which I did editorial work, was published by Ashgate. We are now planning to develop another set of articles for a special issue of an open access journal. continue reading

Teaching epidemiological study designs

4 and 5 August 2010 I have been teaching epidemiological study designs to MSc and MPH students at the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the University of Pretoria. I gave several lectures on the theory and on examples of studies, and we did two case studies using the Problem-Based Learning approach. continue reading

In July 2010 I did a 4-week online course on GEE (Generalized Estimating Equations) via Statistics.com. The instructors were Dr. James Hardin and Dr. Joseph Hilbe, authors of the book Generalized Estimating Equations (2003, Chapman & Hall/CRC). continue reading

The 2nd South African TB Conference

From 1-4 June 2010, the 2nd South African TB Conference was held at the ICC in Durban. The theme of the conference was ‘Forging Strategic Partnerships to Fight TB and HIV’ with the aim of addressing the need for partnerships between researchers, government, health workers, civil society, NGO’s, the private sector and communities. continue reading
